<p class=MsoNormal>Hi List, I am looking for a way to set up a hosts record,
whether using DNS or whatever so that I can put the host name of the router
into Rancid instead of the IP address, and make it easy for others here who are
not DNS, or hosts savvy to add a device to Rancid. Currently Rancid is in a
state of influx as it has all IP’s and no names, so if we try to locate a
config, we need to look up the IP of the router and hope we have the right one.
I use a web front for all admin(except .cloginrc) of Rancid, so if I need
to setup a host file for it to resolve off of, I can create a script for that
as well. I currently tried to create an internal zone off the DNS server, but
did something wrong so it didn’t work. I can do it on a Windoze box, but
we don’t have one for Rancid to use. The DNS zone I created was
domain.hosts.zone, but got SOA and NS errors, so the zone was ignored. <o:p></o:p></p>
