Seeing as it's coming up often nowadays, I'll answer it.<br>
<br>
Rancid does not find any mail server at all. It composes the mail and<br>
hands it over to the local MTA (mail transfer agent) which in your case<br>
is Postfix. Rancid's job is to compose a mail, Postfix's job is to get<br>
that mail delivered.<br>
<br>
Postfix looks up the MX records of the *domain* in each mail address,<br>
and tries to deliver the mails to each server in that list in turn using<br>
SMTP. How it does this is fully described in many quality articles on<br>
the internet.<br>
