UDWIS/S Host Adapter with 1.28 isp-fcode
(370-2443-02)

UDWIS SBus host adapter with isp-fcode 1.28 can cause "invalid command" error during probe-scsi-all or boot -hv from a StorEdge D1000.

UDWIS/S (370-2443-0X)
DWIS/S (370-1704-0X)
SWIS/S (370-1703-0X)

SCSI devices (especially in a multi-hosted configuration) may go offline after isp errors. Examples of errors:

unix: WARNING: /sbus@a,0/QLGC,isp@2,10000/sd@4,5 (sd229): unix: SCSI transport failed: reason 'timeout': retrying command

unix: WARNING: /sbus@a,0/QLGC,isp@2,10000/sd@4,5 (sd229): unix: SCSI transport failed: reason 'timeout': giving up

UDWIS/S (370-2443-01)

Intermittently, SCSI devices connected to a UDWIS card may not be usable after a reboot. This can prevent a system from booting if the UDWIS card connected to the boot device is affected. Examples of errors:

unix: sd2044 at QLGC,isp17: target 4 lun 0 unix: sd2044 is /sbus@5d,0/QLGC,isp@1,10000/sd@4,0 unix: Vendor 'SoEG', product '00****7*********', (unknown capacity)

unix: WARNING: /sbus@49,0/QLGC,isp@1,10000 (isp5): unix: Received unexpected SCSI Reset

L1800 Robotics firmware 2.34 L3500 Robotics firmware 2.40 The StorEdge L1800 robotics firmware (2.34), and L3500 robotics firmware (2.40) has dependencies to the DLT7000 firmware v95. The L1800/L3500 library may fail to detect that a cleaning operation has completed on DLT drives that support Tape Alert (v80 - v95). This causes the tape to be left in the drive until a five minute cleaning timeout period had expired. Once the timeout is reached, the tape will return to the Load Port Location so the tape can be removed from the Library. The DLT 7000 drive FRU part number 370-3332-03 (firmware v95) will encounter the problem if the Tape Alert feature is enabled by the customer.

LibMON 2.0 multilingual Doc Set (855-5008-01)
Sun StorEdge LibMON 2.0 is currently supported on Solaris(TM) operating environment releases 2.5.1 and 2.6. Thus, customers wanting to run StorEdge LibMON/LibAgent 2.0 on Solaris 7 are unable to do so. In response to the above mentioned problem with StorEdge LibMON 2.0, patches 108014-01, 108015-01, 108016-01 and 108017-1 have been released to the SunSolve database. (9-23-99)

Solstice BackUp Server Edition (794-7575-01) Networker may attempt to position a DLT7000 volume to read the label before the drive has completed the load sequence. The DLT7000 has a minimum load time of 48 seconds (previously written) this time may be longer if the tape is blank. The networker product has no understanding of the DLTs "time to load" or for that matter, any other tape library's "time to load" value, and may attempt to position the volume to read the label prior to the drive being at BOT. Should this be the case, one of the following errors may be returned during the mount request:

tape: verify label operation in progress
media warning:tape opening io error
open error

DLT 7000 DRV,8MB for ETL Library (370-3332-0X )
DLT 7000 DRV-4MB for ETL Library (370-3272-0X)
There have been numerous reports of excessive damage to DLT7000 tape drives (pn 370-3332-0X and 370-3272-0X) either during or prior to it's return to the Distribution Center. Upon further investigation, it has been noted that the door handle shaft of the DLT7000 tape drive may become twisted and damaged if the handle is not in the closed position prior to it's return to the Distribution Center.

DLT 7000 drive Take-Up Leader and Cartridge Leader misalignment may cause the unit to fail. most of the reported problems in reference to the DLT7000 failures stem from the current firmware rev. (v72 or older) of the DLT7000 tape drive which does not allow the normal "Buckling Process" of the Take-Up Leader and Cartridge Leader to align properly and insure alignment of the Take-Up Leader and Cartridge Leader. A new DLT firmware version (v85 or newer) has been released that will correct many of the various failure conditions.

DLT 7000 (370-2847-0X) The /kernel/drv/st.conf file entries are incorrect in Solaris 2.5.1 and 2.6 for the DLT7000 drive. The use of an incorrect st.conf file entry will cause tape format incompatibility and poor device performance. In addition, the host system will not recognize the tape device as a DLT- 7000, but as a generic tape device and will assign improper tape density codes and device type to tape drive. Example shown below:
The incorrect st.conf file entry is as follows:

"Quantum DLT7000", "Quantum DLT7000", "DLT7k-data", DLT7k-data = 1,0x36,0,0x1D639,4,0x82,0x83,0x84,0x85,2;

20/35GB DLT Cartridge Tape (370-2188-01)
DLT Cleaning Cartridge
(370-2189-01)
The StorEdge DLT tape drives may encounter problems with swallowed or damaged leaders during the tape load or unloading process if faulty DLT cartridge tapes are in use. This FIN has been issued with the intent to assist Enterprise Services field personnel with the identification of defective DLT cartridge tapes which could cause damage to the StorEdge DLT tape drive.
I0380-2 Information Only LibMON 1.0 SMCC is currently (4/98) shipping Sun Enterprise Library Monitor 1.0 (LibMON) bundled with the Sun StorEdge tape libraries that are identified above. At this time LibMON 1.0 is NOT compatible with any version of Solaris 2.6. Thus, customers using Sun StorEdge tape libraries on systems installed with Solaris 2.6 will be unable to use LibMON 1.0. In response to the above stated problem with LibMON 1.0 and Solaris 2.6 compatibility, Patch ID# 105850-01 was released in order to resolve the issue. Subsequently, after the release of Patch ID# 105850-01 several escalations have occurred which involved the installation of the patch. Do not install this patch from the /tmp directory or errors will occur.
