PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

When an UE10000 is to be relocated to another building or even shipped
to a different site problems, both hardware and software, may occur upon
reinstallation of the UE10000 system. The following is a procedure to
alleviate these problems. This procedure is assuming that expected
changes in the IP name, address, hostname, domain_name, etc will be
taking place. It also assumes that all cables are labeled correctly.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

THE FOLLOWING IS THE RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE FOR RE-LOCATING AN UE1000 SYSTEM!

PROCEDURE TO DECONFIGURE THE UE10000 TO BE RELOCATED:

		1) Perform a level 0 backup.
		2) In an SSP window, logged in as ssp, run `edd_cmd -x stop'.

NOTE - Steps 3 and 4 should be done on ALL domains you plan to reuse.

		3) Retain a copy of the /etc/vfstab if the system has been
		   pre-configured.
		4) Run the command `/usr/platform/sun4u1/sbin/ssp-unconfig'
		   as root.

The ssp-unconfig script undoes the defaults set by the ssp-config
script and then invokes the SunOS command sys-unconfig. When
sys-unconfig is finished, it performs a system shutdown.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

	PROCEDURE TO DECONFIGURE THE SSP:

		1) Perform a level 0 backup.

		2) Execute a `domain_status' and keep the output in order to
keep the correct eeprom file with its corresponding
		   domain_name.

		3) Execute a `domain_remove' of all domains on the system.

		4) Save copies of ~ssp/.postrc and the associated blacklist
		   files for all domains.

		5) You must change the naming convention of your eeprom.image
		   files. Change directory to
			/var/opt/SUNWssp/.ssp_private/eeprom_save.
You will see there one eeprom.image file for each domain.
   		   They will be named:

				eeprom.image.example
				eeprom.image.example1
				eeprom.image.example20

Figure out which is the first domain by running sys_id -d -f
	eeprom.image.x

	Here is an example:

	prompt> domain_switch <platform name> - In order to run the
following command you will need to have a valid domain_name and
since we just removed all the domains, you must set it to the
	platform name.

		prompt> sys_id -d -f eeprom.image.example

		IDPROM in eeprom.image.example

	    	                Format = 0x01
 	  	           Machine Type = 0x80
  		        Ethernet Address = 0:0:be:a6:50:2f
  	 	     Manufacturing Date = Wed Dec 31 16:00:00 1969
Serial number (machine ID) = 0xa6502f
                  Checksum = 0x3f

Look at the Serial number. Your first domain will start with 0xa65xxx.
All the others will look like 0xa66xxx.

NOTE - reference number 2 above.

Now run `mv eeprom.image.example eeprom.image_0' for the first
	eeprom.image file. Then `mv eeprom.image.example1
eeprom.image_1' for the next, etc, until all are moved.

	POWERING OFF YOUR UE10000:

		1) Power down the ue10000 by issuing a "power -off -all"
command from an SSP window. This will power off the ue10000
power supplies. The fans will continue to run.

*** Please read the "power(1M)" man page on the ssp. ***

NOTE - Do NOT turn the circuit breakers off at this point! With power
turned off via S/W, the ctlr board is still talking to the
	SSP.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

	POWERING OFF YOUR SSP:

		1) Execute the command `/opt/SUNWssp/bin/ssp_unconfig' as root.
After completion you can bring the SSP down via a shutdown,
halt, init 0, or any other method that will bring your
		   system down clean.

		2) After your SSP is at the "ok" prompt, turn the circuit
		   breaker to the off position.

NOTE - At this point you can flip all circuit breakers to the off
position on the Processor and the I/O cabinets.

==========================================================================

	PACKING AND SHIPPING THE UE10000:

Reference the following URL to pack/unpack your UE10000:

		http://marvin.West.Sun.COM/pubs/starfire_service/ and look
for the unpacking guide. Reverse the procedure to pack up
		your system.

NOTE - Please make sure to cover the UE10000 with the plastic cover
to avoid dirt and dust from getting on the system boards and the
disk drives. Insert the cardboard trays to keep the system
boards from comming loose druing shipment. You will also need
to get extra tip and tell sensors along with shock watchers and
adhere them to the shipping container.

NOTE - Use an authorized electronic shipper with air-ride
suspension to have your system shipped.

==========================================================================

REINSTALLING THE UE10000 AND THE SSP:

At this point refer to your H/W and S/W installation guide.
Located at the referenced location above in the REFERENCES
		Section of this notice.

COMMENTS:

IF YOUR INTENTION IS TO SHIP TO A DIFFERENT CUSTOMER SITE, YOU MUST
	SAVE ALL PACKING MATERIAL.

INSTALL THE SYSTEM AS PER THE INSTALLATION MANUAL. SAVE ALL UPGRADES
	UNTIL SYSTEM IS STABLE.
