PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

From FIN I0375-1;
-----------------

The DMRT (Defection Material Return Tag) continues to be received
incomplete and missing required critical information in a number of
field returns.  In addition, the error log files, which are to be
submitted to the E10K.RMA@oregon.west.sun.com email alias, are missing
in a number of field returns.

It is essential that all E10000 support Engineers completely fill out
all sections of the DMRT including the lower section of page two
specific to the E10K product and submit the error log files via email
to the E10K.RMA@oregon.west.sun.com.

Failure to do so may result in incorrect diagnosis or a decision to
scrap the FRU unnecessarily.

In the case of a FRU received with an old Defective Tag and Field
Information Form, both the Defective Tag and the paper FIF form need to
be completely filled out and returned with the part.  Again, the error
files should be sent to the E10K.RMA@oregon.west.sun.com email alias.

Additionally, Manufacturing/Repair requests that the NEW ESD bag
provided with the good replacement part be used to return the defective
parts.  Many units are still being returned in used, torn or otherwise
unsealed ESD bags.  Failure to return the FRU in the correct ESD bag
and packaging may also result in unnecessary scrapping of parts.

Update for FIN I0375-2;
-----------------------
In this -2, the following are the updates to FINI0375-1; 

  1) The following part numbers were added to the existing parts in the
     PART NUMBERS AFFECTED section;
     . 501-4778-02 - ECB ASSY E10K RISER W/5V
     . 501-4777-01 - ECB ASSY E10K RISER W/3.3V
     . 501-5693-04 - ECB ASSY SYSTEM STARFIRE+ ECC TSD
     . 501-5494-01 - ASSY ECB SET CONT TESTED STARFIRE+
     . 300-1368-02 - POWER SUPPLY 48VDC AC/DC HOT PLG
     . 300-1430-03 - POWER SUPPLY A135 48VDC 1750W
     . 540-4508-01 - ASSY AC INPUT MODULE  E10K

  2) The Problem Description reinforces message that the field needs to
     follow Enterprise Services return procedure relative to the E10K 
     FRUs.
    
  3) The Problem Description contains an update relative to changes in 
     the DMRT form adding a page 2 specific to the E10K.

  4) The Corrective Action has an update in the return procedure 
     relative to the new DMRT form.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

An Authorized Enterprise Field Service Representative may avoid the
above mentioned problems by following the recommendations as shown
below.

The required procedures for returning Enterprise 10000 FRUs are as 
follows:

E10000 FRU RETURN PROCEDURE:

The SSE must complete EITHER 1A OR 1B and then complete steps 2 and 3.

  The SSE must -

  1A. For a part received with a new DMRT tag, manually complete the 
      entire DMRT tag including page 2 and the section at the bottom 
      of page 2 specific to E10K product.
    
      OR

  1B. For a part received with an old DMRT tag with a paper FIF form, 
      completely fill out the DMRT tag and paper FIF form and return 
      with the product.       
 
      If the E10000 Failure Information Form is not present, a new one can 
      be obtained by printing one from:

  2. Deposit the FRU into the NEW ESD bag, seal it and place in the 
     original packaging and return it via the standard Logistics route.
   
  3. Ensure that the required ARBstop files are emailed to 
     the correct location.

i)   In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to contact   
     all affected customers to recommend implementation of the FIN. 
        

ii)  For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical sup-  

     port teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their respective 
     accounts), at the convenience of the customer. 


iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the need 

     arises.
