PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Some concern has been raised by Engineering regarding the install-
ation of Quad FastEthernet Sbus Card(s) (X1049A) on E10000 systems
in the field.  This FIN serves as a reference in an effort to add-  
ress this issue.   

The installation of the QFE Sbus Card (X1049A) on an E10000 domain  
running Solaris 2.5.1 or 2.6HW2  will require 'special instructions'    
to successfully complete the installation.  These instructions are     
unnecessary if the Enterprise 10000 is running Solaris 2.6 HW3/98 
or later.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:
 
PRIOR to installing the Quad FastEthernet sbus card(s) on an E10000 
domain running Solaris 2.5.1 or 2.6 HW2, Enterprise Services field 
personnel are prompted to reference the "Installation Instructions   
for the QFE Sbus Card Model 1049A on a E10000 manual" in order to 
complete ALL of the required actions for a successful QFE Sbus card
installation.

COMMENTS:
	
The 1049A QFE card must be at hardware revision -02 (501-4837-02) to 
properly operate in the E10000 system.  The -01 version (501-4837-01) 
is NOT supported on the Ultra Enterprise 10000 System.

i)   In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to contact   
     all affected customers to recommend implementation of the FIN. 
        

ii)  For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical sup-  

     port teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their respective 
     accounts), at the convenience of the customer. 


iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the need 

     arises.
