PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

The Enterprise 250 supplement CD's installation script may fail under
Solaris 2.5.1 11/97. An explanation of the failure, as described in
bugId 4209527 is provided below:

The install script internally calls 2.5.1_install but it may fail
because platform/SUNW,Ultra-250 may not yet exist. The 2.5.1_install
has to install platform/SUNW, Ultra-250 but it uses 'uname -i' and then
quits the installation.

To reproduce the problem:

1) install Solaris2.5.1 11/97 onto Enterprise 250

2) Install E250 supplement  -> failed.

IMPLEMENTATION:

         ---
        | | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
         ---

         ---
        | | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
         ---

         ---
        | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
         ---

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

Customers and Enterprise Field Service representatives may avoid the
above mentioned problem with installing the Enterprise 250 supplement
CD by following the recommendation shown below:

After installing the operating system (solaris 2.5.1 11/97), login
as root and enter the following commands:

#cd /platform
#ln -s sun4u SUNW,Ultra-250
#cd /usr/platform
#ln -s sun4u SUNW,Ultra-250
#sync
#reboot

After the system reboots, you can do install the Solaris 2.5.1
Supplement for Sun Enterprise 250 Servers.
