PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

The following problem may be experienced if the dependencies for the
firmware as described below, are not followed for the L1800 and L3500
tape libraries;

The L1800/L3500 library may fail to detect that a cleaning operation
has completed on DLT drives that support Tape Alert (v80 - v95). This
causes the tape to be left in the drive until a five minute cleaning
timeout period had expired. Once the timeout is reached, the tape will
return to the Load Port Location so the tape can be removed from the
Library.

The DLT 7000 drive FRU part number 370-3332-03 (firmware v95) will
encounter the problem if the TapeAlert feature is enabled by the
customer.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

Enterprise Customers and Authorized Enterprise Field Service
Representatives should note the following recommendations to avoid
the above mentioned DLT7000 firmware problem as mentioned above:

The following is an advisory to highlight the dependencies of the
f/w for the robotics on the L1800 (f/w 2.34) and L3500 (f/w 2.40)
to the DLT7000, v95 f/w.

After upgrading the v95 f/w on the DLT7000 Tape Drive, the following
robotics f/w should be upgraded on the robotics Assembly:

1. Patch# 108437 is for DLT7000 drives, v95 f/w upgrade to be used with
patches 108598 or 108602 as the case maybe.

2. The StorEdge L1800 requires f/w 2.34, see patch# 108598 for
   instructions and dependencies.

3. The StorEdge L3500 requires f/w 2.40, see patch# 108602 for
   instructions and dependencies

4. Patch# 108437 releases f/w v95, also applies to L1000 and L11000
DLT7000 drives, but, does NOT have dependencies and can be downloaded
   directly.

COMMENTS:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Implementation Footnote:

i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
     the FIN.

ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.

iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
     need arises.
