PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Some SBus cards compatible with E10000 systems are shipped without
backplate adapters and handles. If they are installed without
backplates and handles, these cards may be difficult to install and
they can potentially emit EMI noise and can harm data signal
integrity. There is also the possibility of damage to the SBus card
components and personal injury to the service person during
installation.

The E10000 system accommodates SBus cards of many types. To ensure
maximum signal integrity, system reliability, and minimal Electro
Magnetic Interference (EMI) emissions, all SBus cards must be installed
in the E10000 system with a non-conductive SBus retainer (handle) and a
backplate adapter. These two parts are included with a new SBus
Installation Hardware Kit (P/N 565-1673-01) which is included with the
E10000 when it is shipped from the factory.

The original SBus accessory kit (560-2517-01) was updated to include a
doclette and 5 SBus card handles. The handle is a tool used to ease
the installation of SBus cards onto the E10000 system boards. The old
FRU kit (565-1404-01) has been replaced by a new FRU kit (565-1673-01).
These part number changes resulted from ECO WO_18816.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives and Warranty Customers who
may be encountering the above mentioned problem.

When SBus handles and backplates are needed for SBus cards installed in
an E10000 system, use the new SBus accessory kit, 565-1673-01.

Where affected SBus cards are found already installed on an E10000
system board, the SBus card must be removed from the system board to
enable the SBus bracket kit to be fitted.

Removal of the system board from an E10000 Domain will require the
domain to be shutdown and the system board powered off. Removal of the
system board can also be achieved by dynamic reconfiguration, provided
the process has been tested and proven.

Perform the following procedure to install the kit onto an SBus card:

1. Attach an antistatic wrist strap and install the SBus retainer (handle)
   on the SBus card.

2. Install the SBus backplate adapter on the SBus card. Use the two
   screws provided.

. For more information, please refer to the doclette provided with
the accessory kit or read the document online at:
