                    fix only.

PatchId: 110696 - SANSurfer fiber channel administration esm_smgr.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

User logins to a freshly installed SANSurfer GUI on November 25, 2001
or later may fail. The login for a pre-installed GUI might also fail
after that date if no changes have been made to the user account. When
customers are unable to login to the SANSurfer application, then the
immediate impact is that they will not be able to use any SAN
management utilities. The SANSurfer software is used to manage Storage
Area Networks (SAN's) which use the StorEdge Network FC Switch-8 and
Switch-16 fibre switches.

Here is the failure message which displays on the console:

"Login Failed" - Login Failure as user expires on 11/25/01.

It is expected that there will be a limited number of customers who
experience this problem. This is due to the fact that many users
change their SANSurfer password from the default value. By setting a
new password, the expiration date for the user account is set to the
default of 2019. However, users who have not changed their password
prior to November 25, 2001, will not be able to login.

The Switch GUI has a file (app.dat) which holds the information for
user accounts, including the account expiration date. The GUI also
stores the default information in a second location and this
information is the one which the user sees on the screen. The problem
exists because the default expiration date for the user's account is
not the same in the app.dat file and the second location in the GUI.

The difficulty in identifying this issue during product testing was due
to the fact that any changes in the user's account followed by an
'Apply' would mask the issue. If the tester first checked for the
password and then for the expiration date, he would not encounter this
issue.

Sun Engineering has resolved this SANSurfer login problem and the fix
is available via Patch 110696. The next release of the SANSurfer
software CD will also incorporate this fix.
