PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
This FIN will explain the field procedure for the installation of
Brocade 8 and 16 port switches into a Sun rack. There is no downtime
and little customer impact as a result of this issue.
Brocade Silkworm switch models 2402, 2802 and 3802, use the same rack
mount kit. The online document mentions 2x00 or 3x00 which 'x' denotes
any number. Therefore, 2402 and 2802 belongs to 2x00 category and 3802
belongs to 3x00 category. The slides supplied with the kit are 29"
(736mm) in length. This length is not as deep as the Sun rack rails.
Because of this, all four brackets can not be used as illustrated in
the installation instructions which come with the Silkworm Slide-Rack
Mount kit.
Field Engineers will notice this fit problem at installation or during
a FRU replacement. All Sun racks should have this issue. The supplied
installation procedure says to install the switch into the rack without
any modification. It does not take into account that rack sizes may
vary. Therefore, the procedure supplied with the rack mount kit cannot
be followed.
The Brocade bracket dimensions are smaller than the Sun rack dimensions.
Currently there is no plan to qualify new brackets. Please see the
recommended workaround procedure given below.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.
Please perform the following procedures as needed to install Brocade
switches into a Sun rack:
1. Remove rear mounting screws, nuts and bracket.
2. Mount the rails directly to the Sun rack internal rails. The hole within
the accuride outer slide is a tight fit, but the Sun standard screw
will fit.
3. Mount front brackets as far forward as possible to ensure the rack
mount brackets on the switch are flush to the Sun rack front rails.
NOTE:The brackets are fastened to the side of the switch.

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
the FIN.
ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
