PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Customers with SE9900 arrays will be unable to use the Command and
Control Interface (CCI) of HDS RAID Manager to manage ShadowImage or
TrueCopy devices if they have installed Sun StorEdge Traffic Manager
(MPXIO). Because the CCI software automatically truncates device
pathnames greater than 32 characters, pathnames created by MPXIO (>32
characters) will be unavailable to the CCI software.

This issue affects all versions of HDS RAID Manager previous to
01-10-03/02 for the the 9910/60 and previous to 01-10-03/01 for the
9970/80. To determine the version of HDS RAID Manager installed, use
the 'raidqry -h' command:

    # raidqry -h

      Model: RAID-Manager/Solaris
      Ver&Rev: 01-06-03/00

When this issue occurs, you will receive the following error when
attempting to access the control device:

    # pairsplit -S -g <GROUPNAME>

pairsplit: [EX_ENPERM] Permission denied with the LDEV
Refer to the command log(/HORCM/log0/horcc_<HOSTNAME>.log) for
details.

The relevant output from /HORCM/log0/horcc_<HOSTNAME>.log shows:

    COMMAND ERROR : EUserId for HOMRCF : root (0) Mon Nov 11 10:34:04 2002
    CMDLINE : pairsplit -S -g <GROUPNAME>
10:34:05-0c9db-00452- [pairsplit] local: no permission of devname(disk1)
    10:34:05-1736d-00452- [pairsplit][exit(213)]
[EX_ENPERM] Permission denied with the LDEV
[Cause ]:A device mentioned in the configuration file doesn't have a
             permission for a pair-operation.
[Action]:Please confirm if a device which a pair-operation was permitted
by using the pairdisplay or 'raidscan -find verify' command.

Previous workarounds for this bug can lead to incompatibility issues
with other applications such as Sun Cluster (see comments in bug
4680413), CVS Volumes, and Command Device Security (see bug 4777087).

The permanent fix for this problem is to upgrade to the following
versions of Raid Manager software and microcode:

Use Raid Manager 01-10-03/02 and m/c 01-18-09-00/00 or later with SE9910/60.
Use Raid Manager 01-10-03/01 and m/c 21-02-23-00/00 or later with SE9970/80.

IMPLEMENTATION:

         ---
        | | MANDATORY (Fully Proactive)
         ---

         ---
        | | CONTROLLED PROACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
         ---

         ---
        | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
         ---

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Sun Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.

Upgrade to the following versions of Raid Manager software and microcode
per the instructions in the Maintenance Manual and ECNs:

Use Raid Manager 01-10-03/02 and m/c 01-18-09-00/00 or later with SE9910/60.
Use Raid Manager 01-10-03/01 and m/c 21-02-23-00/00 or later with SE9970/80.

RAID Manager software and microcode upgrades can be obtained through the
process outlined at:
