22650   Configuring netcon logging on the SSP?   28 Feb 2001

Status Issued

Description

What is netcon logging?

Netcon logging is the console log for E10000 domains that is written to the SSP.

Logging console information is crucial in the event the domain is unable to log information via normal methods. Also, there are some messages that are only output to this console (a panic stack trace for example).

What version of the SSP must I be running?

SSP 3.1.1 or higher

How is it enabled?

Netcon logging is integrated into SSP 3.1.1 and higher, but it is not enabled by default. To enable logging for SSP 3.1.1 and higher:

  1. Edit the /etc/syslog.conf file
  2. Uncomment the local1.debug line to enable SSP netcon session logging

  3. local1.debug /var/opt/SUNWssp/.ssp_private/machine_server_fifo
  4. Restart the SSP

Where is the output stored?

The output for each domain's console is stored in $SSPVAR/adm/<domain>/netcon
