27565   A1000 Disk Space Is Not Adding Up   11 Sep 2001

Status Issued

Description

Before Raid Manager 6 software is installed:

A fully loaded A1000 (12 disks @ 36 GB each) totals 430 GB "marketing" space. However, the output from format for that lun only shows 101 GB. Where did that extra 329 GB go? Here's what is probably happening.

When the controller ships from the factory, it will have a lun 0 by default. However, not all the disks in the array will be included in this default lun 0. In the example above, only three disks were included in the lun. Which explains why the lun only showed just over 100 GB.

After Raid Manager 6 software is installed:

Once the RM6 software is installed, you'll probably notice lun 0 is comprised of only 3 of the 12 disks in the array. If you calculate (3 x 36 = 108), 108 less the marketing space will provide roughly 101 GB.

Note: Please keep in mind the Raid Manager software MUST be installed prior to troubleshooting any A1000 or A3x00 issues.
