Description

Synopsis: Sunfire V880 with 900 MHz CPU's fails Post with "scan chain broken" error when the system is in extended diagnostics.

Solution Summary :The 900 MHz CPUs with rev -03 on the V880 will need the OBP to be at 4.6.3 or higher in order to past post.

You can check the current version of the OBP that is on your system by running one of the following commands.

1. If you are at the OS level you can check by typing the following in a terminal window :

prtconf -V

This is what the output should look like:

OBP 4.2.8 2001/08/16 18:09

2 If you are at the OK prompt you will find the OBP information by typing:

.version.

The output should look as follows:

{0} ok .version

Release 4.2 Version 8 created 2001/08/16 18:09

OBP 4.2.8 2001/08/16 18:09 <------------------

POST 4.2.6 2001/07/17 13:45

Note: banner will not display the full OBP version that .version does

Remember, if the system board has been replaced, check the level of the OBP. If it is not at 4.6.3 or higher, it will not pass post. Therefore, check the OBP before replacing the system board again.
