15506   UPS can cause Ultra 2 going down to OBP level.   28 Jul 1997

Status Issued

Description
An Ultra 2 with SunOS 5.5.1 dropped to OBP level every 2-5 minutes
for 2 days. There was no panic messages in /var/adm/messages file
besides the messages said that the system rebooted by signal 15
every time it dropped to OK prompt. Also there was no watchdog
reset message on the console when the system went down. When
the system went down, the UPS connected to the system was cut off
also. Physical removal of UPS did not stop the event.
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
Removal of the UPS software from /usr/lib stopped the system from
going down to OK prompt right away.

According to the Field Engineer onsite, Ultra 2 needs to use UPS
model SU 1400. The UPS used in this system was APC part number
SU 700 NET. It was too small for Ultra 2.
