Description

Description

A new E10K centerplane has begun shipping from manufacturing. The difference is a new supplier of the centerplane EEPROM chip. Problems occur on initial power-up of the platform if the centrrplane support board (CSB) EEPROM is read by thermcal_config before the centerplane (CP) EEPROM is read. The thermcal_config.tcl file does not get updated with correct data, and as a possibility, this may cause invalid temperature conditions to be detected on the centerplane, leading to global domain outages. There is bugid 4335877, but it doesn't provide details. It should be noted that all current E10K CSBs can manifest this problem, and only when CP's with the new EEPROM are present. There is NO change to the ordering part number and revision of the CP to reflect the new EEPROM change.

SOLUTION SUMMARY:

Solution

To combat this condition, an SSP mandatory patch has been released for all ssp software versions. They are listed below. The centerplanes will be shipping with a document insert which also identifies the need for these ssp patches:

To avoid problems as a result of installing the new centerplane, please proactively upgrade or have customers to upgrade the SSP software with the appropriate patch.
