Status Issued

Description

The following error messages appear in the system controller messages file:

Mar 10 11:33:57 2002 orlocn01-sc0 esmd[506]: [2000 171363006794824 ERRSysControl.cc 1371] A power failure has been
detected on a redundant power supply at ps1_power_good_l, located on CSB at CS1. SCHEDULE REPLACEMENT of CSB at CS1
as soon as possible. If an additional failure occurs on this supply it may crash any dependent domain(s).

SOLUTION SUMMARY:

Explanation:

From David Lafko, CPRE engineer:

Most xcat boards have two power supplies (i.e., pucks). One can fail and the board will still have sufficient power to run. Esmd does NOT put the board, in this case CSB, in the blacklist file for a failed power supply. It WARNS you of the supply failure and that action need be taken ASAP. You are running with risk on only one supply.

ps1_power_good_l is one of the two supplies. esmd is telling you one has failed.

Action:

In the case of the power supply warning message, it prescribes the course of action you should take ASAP. In this case, "schedule replacement of CSB at CS1 as soon as possible."
