Description

Shadowimage error "No allotable reserved volumes"

Note: HOMRCF/open shadow image is an optional feature of the Sun SE99x0 that provides ability to establish and control a copy of a primary (P-VOL) volume for multiple secondary (S-VOL) volumes within the same subsystem that can be mapped on different hosts. This feature is activated via a softkey at the SVP and Remote Console device. It is good for DB testing, Online backups, Multiple Web servers etc.

Scenario:

You had a pair created under shadowimage and after the sync you had split the pair.

Now that you have worked with you primary (P-VOL) and secondary (S-VOL) ldevs separately for production use and offsite backup purpose etc, you would like the data to be copied again from P-VOL to S-VOL.

You are trying to create the pair again with the "paircreate" button on SVP shadowimage section for volumes and you are getting the error message:

"No allotable reserved volumes"

Description:

If the pair was split with "pairsplit" option, then it is currently in the split status and to verify that we can look at the pair status and it would appear in PSUS status.

And if just in case, the pair was split with "pairsplit -E" option, then it would be currently in the suspended status and to verify that we can look at the pair status and it would appear in PSUE status.

The bottom line is that pair is still existing and we see that by clicking on the 'Volume' radio button and verifying that all the concerned P-VOL ldevs and S-VOL ldevs are reserved and have a number "1" in the pair column.

SOLUTION SUMMARY:

Now that we have verified that the pair is still in existence, it does not need to be created again with "paircreate". It just needs to be synched up again with the "pairresync" option. It is preferable to select the resync type to be "Normal Copy" and now you can watch the percentage progess of sync in the "pairdisplay" window.
