48292   Sun Ray[TM]: Screen resolution is not persistent   21 Nov 2002

Status Issued

Description
I have a customer who removes the sunray card or logs in, and the refresh
rate keeps defaulting back to 1280x1024x60. I have followed the steps in
SRDB 40097. Why is this happening?
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
Your customer either has old monitors or bad/cheap VGA cables, or is
powering up the Sun Ray before the monitor (or has a video switch
between the Sun Ray and the monitor that was not switched to the
monitor when the Sun Ray booted up). For one of these reasons, the
Sun Ray was unable to query the monitor for resolution information
during bootup ("DDC"). We've also seen this with very high-end
monitors/projectors/video switches that present RGB to the monitor
instead of VGA.

INTERNAL SUMMARY:
In summary, it's a limitation with the current product, that we are
addressing in SRSS 2.0, which is in Beta until December 2001 and slated for
release February 18 2002 timeframe.
