[rancid] Controlling Version numbers in CVS

Hi Gurus

 

What is the best way to control and update version numbers in CVS for config
files saved by rancid? 

 

>From time to time a router or switch receives new firmware, major sw
upgrades etc. In these cases it would be nice to change the version number
from ex. 1.74 to 2.0

 

How can this be done
