If i connect to the device, rancid does not enable at the unprivilege prompt, after some seconds the error "Error: TIMEOUT reached" occurred I also try it manually with ./clogin -u rancidtest -p {password} -e {password} -noenable {DeviceIP}, but nothing changed. I use rancid 2.3.3. Cheers, Dale From david.byers at liu.se Wed Feb 8 11:52:12 2012 From: david.byers at liu.se (David Byers) Date: Wed, 8 Feb 2012 12:52:12 +0100 Subject: [rancid] Problem backing up HP switches on RHEL 6.2 (x86_64) -- patch included Message-ID: <4F3261EC.9000908@liu.se> On 2010-06-25 a change was checked in to GNU libc that changes how memcpy works on certain architectures. Previously it copied overlapping memory regions correctly; now it doesn't. The net result for rancid is that backups of HP switches don't work on e.g. RedHat Enterprise Linux with glibc-2.12-1.47 (x86_64). The output gets garbled, and rancid fails to complete the backup process in many cases. The cause appears to be memcpy calls in hpuifilter. The patch below appears to solve the problem (at least our backups look OK again); I've simply replaced all memcpy calls with calls to memmove; probably some of them don't need to be replaced, but I don't see any harm in doing so -- memmove may be a little slower, but I doubt that this is a bottleneck in rancid. Unified diff follows below. Message-ID: <4F3E81A5.7070103@chalmers.se> Have done some work to understand, test and update nxrancid. This special version is only tested on nexus 5000 os: 4.2(1)N2(1a) but I hoop that part of this can be get input to next versions of nxrancid. 1. Time to clean up and remove "comment away" IOS code from nxrancid? 2. "term no monitor-force" can't find this command. Only found "terminal no monitor" in NXos manuals Isn't terminal settings reset for each new session? Not needed. 3. Removed some none-NXos error texts, in parsing subroutines. 4. Try to make a more common error handler for subroutine parsing data. 5 Let switch-admin control what "show" and "dir" commands that are permitted when logon to a "read only" restricted user. Have to change 'return(-1)' "abort" to 'return(1)' "continue" when parsing "% Permission denied". Mandatory commands to define in rancid_role: "terminal *" to fix terminal settings at login (rule 1). "show running-config" to backup config. (rule 2) Rest of show and dir commands is up to admin to permit when defining role. ------from nexus config--------------- role name rancid_role description rancid restricted access rule 4 permit command dir * rule 3 permit command show * rule 2 permit command terminal * rule 1 permit command show running-config username rancid password 5 role rancid_role username rancid sshkey ssh-rsa --------------------------------------------- 6. Looks like a bug when login in to restricted user for "show debug" command. It return two "Permission denied"! Can't test if this is solved in later NX versions. Only have two nexus switches in full production. Just add a fix for it, in my version of nxrancid. ------- nx-switch# show debug % Permission denied Debug level is set to Minor(1) % Permission denied nx-switch# ------------------- /Peo ---------------------------------------------------------- Per-Olof Olsson Email: peo at chalmers.se Chalmers tekniska h?gskola IT-service H?rsalsv?gen 5 412 96 G?teborg Tel: 031/772 6738 Fax: 031/772 8680 ---------------------------------------------------------- -------------- next part -------------- An embedded and charset-unspecified text was scrubbed... Message-ID: Hi Listee's, I have a problem which I'm sure is common, I wish to filter out some email updates from Rancid. Here are two very common examples for me of diff's that are emailed to me regularly, that I really don't need to know about :) [1] http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=8KviGwAb [2] http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=Ff38Gpvp What I would like is to understand the order in which the various parts of Rancid run when indexing Cisco devices, so that I can interrupt it. If we suppose updates happen as follows; [1] Connect to each device (one at a time) and execute the serious of enumerating commands preconfigured in the "@CommandTable" [2] Diff the current details with the last retrieved set, and if differences exist, commit as a new entry to the archive [3] After looping through all devices, email out the diff's for any devices who's archive revision has updated as a combined listing If that were how Rancid runs, I'd ideally like to insert a call to a script in section 3, which would parse the diff to my script. My script would look at a folder I have populated with diff's like those above, I don't want to be notified about, and not parse them onto to the final email that Rancid sends out when a match is found. Has anyone done this already perhaps? Ideally, I would like to understand more about this order of events, which scripts and binaries are performing which tasks, so I can implement such a feature for my self. Thanks all for reading and I appreciate any feed back any one can give. We do this by redefining PATH to intercept the call to sendmail in rancid-run : export PATH=/my/dir:$PATH rancid-run A script named sendmail in /my/dir reads stdin and could apply any changes to the message: add or remove some lines, send an email or not etc. See: https://github.com/pdav/netmagis/blob/master/topo/src/start-rancid https://github.com/pdav/netmagis/blob/master/topo/src/sendmail -- Jean From ler762 at gmail.com Sat Feb 18 13:13:24 2012 From: ler762 at gmail.com (Lee) Date: Sat, 18 Feb 2012 08:13:24 -0500 Subject: [rancid] How to implement a diff filter? If enough people are modifying the diff output it might be worthwhile to add something like PRE_EMAIL_SCRIPT="" in /etc/rancid.conf and in bin/control_rancid add if [ "X$PRE_EMAIL_SCRIPT" != "X" -a -x $PRE_EMAIL_SCRIPT ]; then export MAILFILE="$TMP.diff" $PRE_EMAIL_SCRIPT fi just before # Mail out the diffs (if there are any). Setting them up just like a cisco box for the most part does exactly what I need. The TA900 will spit console messages out during telnet/ssh sessions similar to how Cisco boxes will if you are consoled into them. The problem is that this sometimes causes a router to end up with hundreds of revisions when the only thing that's different is that the router threw out a message which caused Rancid to think that it was a change. So I've been searching and I really can't find the correct Google phrase but what script would I modify so I can add the command "no events" so that it would turn off the console output for that session? I figured that if I can send that command before anything else then I won't see the console event which will keep Rancid from thinking it was a config change. However, the 7000dl series expects "terminal length 0", as documented here: (The Command Line Interface Reference Guide from September 2007 has this on page 294.) The attached patch simply sends both "no page" and "terminal length 0". It's been included in the Debian package since March 2011: I don't have access to a 7000dl, so perhaps someone else can provide additional confirmation, but the other models mentioned above continue to work fine. This may be feature creep, but in case you think it's useful, here's a patch that allows rancid.conf to define additional vendor scripts for rancid-fe, e.g.: CUSTOM_VENDOR_H3C=h3crancid; export CUSTOM_VENDOR_H3C (dpkg, rpm, etc. typically preserve configuration files across upgrades, so this removes the need for manually patching stuff.) Currently we're using "sendmail -f..." to redirect bounces, and something like this can also come in handy for adjusting delivery status notifications (e.g. "-N failure -R hdrs"). Patch attached -- again, feel free to disregard if this doesn't seem very useful. Thanks, Matej -------------- next part -------------- An embedded and charset-unspecified text was scrubbed...
