It'll vary depending on your OS (which you didn't specify) but try looking in /var/log/cron for information. The breakage may have come from an automatic OS update, but again, without details it's hard to guess. But in any case, since clogin still works, it's probably not a RANCID issue at all. You still need to manually involve rancid (like cron would do) and see if that completes successfully or not. Also, the problem could simply be email: maybe RANCID is working fine but the emails aren't making it out. I've run into this more than once when something external in the email chain changed. You've a bit more basic UNIX troubleshooting to do before we start blaming RANCID, I'm afraid. Having clogin work proves that RANCID can connect to the host and (I assume?) authenticate. No change in the SVN/GIT/whatever-you-use could mean that either RANCID wasn?t able to retrieve the configuration, wasn?t able to parse the configuration, or wasn?t able to check in the new version to the repo. Unfortunately, I?ve found RANCID?s own debugging output to be either nonexistent or unhelpful. I have run into a very similar situation in the past, but sadly I don?t remember what the problem was. I do remember I had to use system tools to find out what was wrong: If you?re running on Linux, you have the strace(1) tool; on OpenBSD, you?ve got ktrace(1); on Solaris you?ve got truss(8); other UNIXes will have roughly-equivalent tools ? all these are similar in that they will trace system calls for you and produce (somewhat-) meaningful output that may help you identify where the failure occurs. E.g. if it?s a permissions error, the strace(8) output may show you the EPERM error message, and if you look carefully, the path to the file in question. Generally speaking, the strace/ktrace/truss/etc. output will show a failure somewhere in the later part of RANCID?s execution that you can use as a starting point. That?s all I?ve got, hopefully someone else has an easier suggestion. -Adam Adam Thompson Consultant, Infrastructure Services [MERLIN] 100 - 135 Innovation Drive Winnipeg, MB R3T 6A8 (204) 977-6824 or 1-800-430-6404 (MB only) https://www.merlin.mb.ca [cid:image002.png at 01D8D897.6DA634E0]Chat with me on Teams From: simon ben Sent: October 5, 2022 1:16 AM To: rancid-discuss at shrubbery.net; Adam Thompson Subject: Re: [rancid] rancid suddenly stopped backing up devices Dear Adam, Thanks for the quick reply actually I did make a change in router config and also firewall and than ran rancid-run manually but there no update in the revisons neither any email . Generally speaking, the strace/ktrace/truss/etc. output will show a failure somewhere in the later part of RANCID?s execution that you can use as a starting point. what did you find to be missing?? Tell me so that I can try to improve the debug output. > Dear All, > > I had rancid installed couple of months back and working fine with no issues > i have rancid version 3.9 with viewvc 1.3.0 > > I just realized that any changes to most devices are not backed up. > there is no update in revison version neither I receive mail > It stopped on sept 21 2022 > attached a screen shot of the firewall > > changes to above device is done almost daily. > i did run clogin deviceip and it logs in succesfully > > appreciate if someone can advise and help in troubleshooting the issue > I checked the logs but there is no clue > > Thanks and regards > > simon -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I assume that you know this, but some changes are not reflected in the configuration because they are defaults. You did not share what the change was nor what the device is (possibly cisco), so I can not comment about whether is a default. Is the device in the routers.up file? I can see here how a count of devices in the log would be useful, back to Adam's comment. An interface description is an simple change to trigger a rancid diff. Make the change, then after rancid runs, look at the device file in configs directory for the change. If it is there, but you did not receive an email, look at the mail server logs for it being sent. If it was sent, make sure it is not being procmailed/filtered away. How? You have not indicated what you want to send to telegram. I presume that you do not want to send diffs. So, a report of what exactly? I see there are a few email to telegram tools. If the report is from email, such as the rancid-group-admin reports, then this would be one solution. If you want some custom report, there is an a tool called telegram-cli; whatever output could be piped to that. So, you can probably just send the rancid admin mail, either via procmail or your MTA's alias, to email-to-telegram (https://pypi.org/project/email-to-telegram/). The example appears to create a user whose mbox is used for delivery, then forwarded to telegram. Presumbly this could easily be modified to just read stdin, if you prefer that. > Thank you. > > Em ter., 18 de out. de 2022 ?s 12:50, heasley escreveu: > > > Tue, Oct 18, 2022 at 11:42:17AM -0300, OlivaFN88: > > > Hi, I'm new here. > > > > > > I'm looking for some way to send a report through script, Telegram in my > > > case. > > > > > > Is it possible?
