PROBLEM DESCRIPTION :
Sun Fire 3800 systems with cPCI cards installed will initially PANIC.
Then, upon reboot, system will run fine for some period of time, but
PANICs could happen more often, requiring more frequent re-boots.
An example of an "error message" that may be seen as a result of system
panic is as follows:
panic : CPU11 Privileged Bus Error: AFSR 0x00100800.00000000 AFAR
0x00000630.0d808000
AND/OR
panic : reboot after panic: pcisch-4: pci bus 2 error(s)!
AND/OR other miscellaneous SCSI or ethernet errors relating to these cards.
A limited number of cPCI cards shipped between April 23, 2001 and July
31, 2001 are affected.
Root Cause determined that carbon contamination resistance was found
that lowers the amplifier gain and causes the oscillator to fail. In
addition, heat will also lower the amplifier gain. Therefore,
contaminated parts should fail more frequently at elevated temperatures
and during power up.
Corrective action was put in place in Manufacturing by dash rolling part
number 501-5570-06 to 501-5570-07 via ECO WO_21698 on August 10, 2001.
Corrective action was put in place in Enterprise Services via LEAP# 1716
as of August 13, 2001.
