PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The DLT7000 has a minimum load time of 48 seconds (previously written)
this time may be longer if the tape is blank. The networker product
has no understanding of the DLT's "time to load" or for that matter,
any other tape library's "time to load" value, and may attempt to
position the volume to read the label prior to the drive being at BOT.
Should this be the case, one of the following errors may be returned
during the mount request:
tape: verify label operation in progress
media warning:tape <device name> opening io error
open error
Should this type of problem exist, first check the tape library
documentation for the manufacturers quoted time to load the tape to
the BOT mark. This is the time to use plus a 10% safety margin for
equipment variations since all equivalent tape libraries are not
exactly equal in mechanical functioning. For example, if the
manufacturer states that it takes 85 seconds to load the tape to the
BOT mark, then set the value of the load_sleep variable to 85 seconds
plus an additional 8.5 seconds or rounding off, set the value to 94
seconds. This should allow the tape drive to load the tape and advance
to the BOT and be ready for either the read or write function to occur
normally.
IMPLEMENTATION:
---
| | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
---
---
| | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
---
---
| x | REACTIVE (As Required)
---
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Enterprise Customers and Authorized Service Representatives may avoid
the above mentioned Networker problem by following the recommendation
shown below:
1. Set the load_sleep parameter to a value in seconds.
For example, "load_sleep=300" will cause nsrjb to wait for 300
seconds before attempting the access the device.
The default value is insufficient and will not allow the drive time to
complete the tape load process.
If this option is not set (!load_sleep), then the default value is 0
seconds.
This delay was added to NetWorker for devices which return
asynchronously from the load operation before the device is ready.
Use the NetWorker Administration GUI (nwadmin) to set this parameter.
For Example in SBU 5.1.
>From the nwadmin GUI
Select Media =v
v> Jukeboxes => View => Details => Jukebox
options
Type "load_sleep=n" where n is the number of seconds or use the
up/down pointers to change the value
For Example in SBU 5.5.1
>From the nwadmin GUI
Select Media =v
v> Jukeboxes => View => Details => load sleep
Type load sleep column "n" where n is the number of seconds or
use the up/down pointers to change the value

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
the FIN.
ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
