PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Swapping a disk within a clustered environment could cause issue for
a customer's clustered environment in the future if the disk is the
quorum device.
Failure to notice that the failed disk is the quorum device and swapping
it will cause the cluster to invoke manual intervention if the cluster
goes into failure fencing or split brained activities.
IMPLEMENTATION:
---
| | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
---
---
| X | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
---
---
| | REACTIVE (As Required)
---
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Enterprise Customers and Authorized Enterprise Field Service Representatives
that replace disk(s) that are in a clusted configuration should note the
following recommendations:
The quorum device uses the disk serial number and this is not updated
within the cluster when the disk is swapped. To check the disk that is
the quorum device use the following steps:
1. Check the quorum device
ls -l /var/opt/SUNWcluster/devices
eg:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 18 Aug 3 10:34 9828W77073 ->
/dev/rdsk/c2t6d0s2
This should give you the disk device used for the quorum.
2. Check the disk for the physical device
eg:
ls -l /dev/rdsk/c2t6d0s2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 78 Aug 3 10:02 /dev/rdsk/c2t6d0s2
->
devices/sbus@6,0/SUNW,socal@d,10000/sf@0,0/ssd@w2100002037138f0c,0:c,raw
3. Check the world wide number against the storage array. For example on a
photon

4. If this is the faulty disk you need to reconfigure the quorom device.
a. If A5000 then use
scconf <clustername> -q -D
b. If alternative storage array then use.
scconf <clustername> -q nodename1 nodename2 etc....
5. After you have reconfigured the quorum device you should be able to follow
the normal procedure for swapping a disk.

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
the FIN.
ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
