PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
There is confusion with regard to supporting the A5x00 products with hubs
attached and the use of Volume Manager version 3.0.2. This confusion came
from the Veritas Volume Manager Hardware Application Note Release 3.0.2,
which states on page 12...
"Dynamic Multi Pathing (DMP) does not support hub-attached A5000,
A5100, and A5200 arrays at this time. See your sales representatives
for details about DMP support plans for this configuration."
If the above recommendation is not followed, then the system could encounter
catastrophic results.
The purpose of this FIN is to clarify the support restrictions relating
to Volume Manager 3.0.2 and use of hubs with A5X00 product line.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives and Enterprise Customers to
clarify and emphasize the support restrictions for A5X00 configurations
and VxVM release 3.0.2;
VxVM supports configurations with multiple A5x00 disk arrays,
only if each of them is connected directly to the host (whether
in single or multipathed fashion).
VxVM does not support configurations with multiple A5x00 disk arrays
connected to the host through one or more hubs or in a daisy chained
manner.
In case a customer has daisy chained configuration, the recommendation
is to reconfigure to a direct connect to the host if daisy chained
configuration. At such time as fix is available, devices can be
reconfigured back to daisy chain configuration with the use of hubs.
The above support restrictions regarding A5X00 and VxVM 3.0.2 release
WILL be removed when Veritas releases VxVM Volume Manager version 3.0.4.

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
the FIN.
ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
