Controller Release Notes
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
All currently installed StorEdge SRC/P Intelligent SCSI RAID
Controllers with firmware version SM02 MUST be upgraded to new firmware
version SMEA with an available patch. This includes all controller
cards shipped prior to September 2000. Boards shipped since September
2000 will contain the upgraded firmware and do not need to be patched.
Over 200 bugs have been filed against this PCI board. Some of the
reported problems are severe in nature, causing unpredictable results
under extreme load conditions and could possibly affect the proper
operation of the affected systems. The patch must be installed on all
affected systems even if no problems have been experienced by the
customer. The problem descriptions may be found in the relevant bug
reports which are listed in the patch README file. These can be found
online at:
http://sunsolve.sun.com.
The following systems with an SRC/P Intelligent SCSI RAID Controller,
P/N 375-0078-01 or 375-0078-02, are affected:
Enterprise 250, Option X6542A
Enterprise 450, Option X6542A, X6602A
No firmware update is required for SRC/P controllers shipped after
September 2000. To determine whether or not a controller has the
correct version of firmware, run "dptutil -L all" from the host system.
In addition, the /var/adm/messages file on the host system will contain
a message like this after the driver and firmware update:
SUN 64-bit I2O HBA Driver:1.B5
DPT PM3755U2B FW: SMEA
NVRAM "SUN V1.5"
The required patches are:
109700 for Solaris 2.6
109701 for Solaris 7
These patches contain updates to SRC/P utilities, a new device driver,
and a new firmware image (SMEA) which must be installed on the SRC/P
Intelligent SCSI RAID Controller. The patch README provides instructions
for installing the new firmware.
The patches will provide these versions of firmware and software:
Firmware: 375SMEA.ima.
SRC/P driver: 1.B5.
dputil: 2.0V.
Storage Manager application: 2.0U.
A stop ship condition has existed for this controller board from
November 1999 until September 2000. Backlogged orders will begin
shipping with the new firmware in mid-September 2000 and general
availability will begin in Q2FY01. The new controllers do not
need to be patched.
