PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The impact to Sun is potential lost revenue in RTUs not being sold
and Enterprise Services contracts not being priced correctly to
include maintenance on activated CPUs and system boards (active or
inactive).
E10000 Capacity on Demand (COD) systems are not being set up to
send automated e-mail per the contract agreements.
There have been 179 E10K COD systems sold and only 9% of these systems
have been configured to send e-mail back to Sun. The potential revenue
in RTUs is over $115M.
There are various possible reasons for the incomplete setup;
- no infrastructure at the customer site.
- customer says they do not want to setup the automated e-mail.
- field engineers may not be aware of the proper setup.
IMPLEMENTATION:
---
| | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
---
---
| | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
---
---
| X | REACTIVE (As Required)
---
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
The objective of this FIN is to inform the field of the proper way to
configure the system.
When a COD system is setup properly, the COD software is installed and
the system is set up to send e-mail to Sun via a secure log file. In
order for the secure logging function to work, the system must have the
infrastructure to send e-mail to Sun. Please reference the E10000
install documents for proper configuration of a COD system.
For your reference the E10K COD documents are located at:
http://marvin.west/pubs/starfire_user/coddocs/cod.html
For customer sites where e-mail is absolutely not possible, alternative
arrangements can be made. This process will have to be arranged by the
sales engineer. This process is not desirable because may take Sun
service resources to perform the data collection.
