PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 


This FIN highlights the importance of applying these two patches that
are required to be installed in order to avoid the possibility of data
loss.  These patches are necessary ONLY if a complete system rebuild is
required with use of recovery CD # 798-3574-01.  There are no customer
shipments at risk.    

If these two patches are not installed while system is rebuilt, the
following problems can occur as a result of some files that are missing 
for example longer time to system bootup and eventual system hang.
 
Patch 111261 adds the missing logging statement to the V1.1 Cli vol
command.  Without this patch, logging would be disabled for all
volumes/filesystems. FSCK time could be extremely long and the loss of
data a possibility.
  
Patch 111262 adds a pull down menu V1.1 management GUI. When in a
NIS environment, this allows for the download of the NIS user info
from the NIS master onto the Sun Storage N8400 or N8600. Without this
option, clients would not be able to mount Sun Storage file systems.
 
Missing logging statement in the Sun Storage v1.1 Cli vol command and
missing download pull down menu in the V1.1 management GUI.
 
Sun Storage V1.1 Vol command and GUI have been fixed.  A new image was
sent to Operations on Apr/13/01.  PatchIds 111261 and 111262 are
required ONLY if a system is rebuilt with use of recovery CD 798-3574-01.

CORRECTIVE ACTION: 

The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above 
mentioned problem.

Please perform the following procedure:

  1. Complete rebuild via recovery CD 798-3574-01.  

  2. Obtain following patches 111261 and 111262 from Sun Solve.  

  3. Install patches via patchadd command.  

NOTE: No reboot is necessary.

Implementation Footnote:

i)   In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to    
     contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of 
     the FIN. 
   
ii)  For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical    
     support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN  (to their  
     respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer. 

iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the   
     need arises.
