and User's Guide.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Sun Enterprise 10000 systems will fail to boot over the network from
a down rev Dual Fast Ethernet and Dual SCSI PCI Adapter. This can
lead to unexpected system downtime when attempting to perform a
network install.
The affected configuration is any E10K system with Sun part number
501-5727-03 installed. All E10K systems configured in
manufacturing with Option X2222A shipped with 501-5727-04 boards
and are not affected. The only possibility for failure exists when
Sun part number 501-5727-03 is installed as a replacement FRU.
The error message is "failed selftest error".
Root cause determined that the firmware level of the 501-5727-03 boards
will not support a network boot on an E10K. When booting from the
ethernet port that is connected to the network, the first step that
occurs is a self-test on that port. This test will fail immediately
and the system will not be able to boot.
Corrective action was made available in manufacturing by releasing the
501-5727-04 via ECO# WO_23493 as of March 12, 2002. Corrective
action was made available in Enterprise Service via LEAP# 1954 as of
April 5, 2002.
IMPLEMENTATION:

| | CONTROLLED PROACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)

| X | REACTIVE (As Required)

CORRECTIVE ACTION:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.
The E10K platform *only* supports the 501-5727-04 or later version of the
X2222A (Cauldron) card. When replacing this board in an E10K system, only
use FRU version 501-5727-04 or greater.
Reference the Dual FastEthernet and Dual SCSI/P Adapter Installation and
User's Guide, 806-6052-10, for the details of board installation.
