PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Disks in StorEdge A1000/A3x00/A3500FC arrays may sometimes be shown as
having physical device paths in addition to pseudo device paths with
the 'format' utility. Although the disks and arrays will continue to
function normally, this issue may cause confusion for system
administrators and support personnel.

This issue applies to any system type with StorEdge A1000/A3x00/A3500FC
arrays with Raid Manager 6.22 or 6.22.1 installed.

Use the following commands to determine if the affected version of Raid
Manager software is installed:

   # pkginfo -l SUNWosar

     VERSION: 06.22, REV=01.14 <--- 6.22

   OR

   # pkginfo -l SUNWosar

     VERSION: 06.22,REV=01.54 <--- 6.22.1

Normally, only pseduo device paths for an A1000/A3x00/A3500FC array
will show from the format utility as follows:

   # format

pseudo device paths:

Bug 4516766 Enabling mpxio delays device enumeration so rdac doesn't

This problem occurs due to insufficient coordination between the
Redundant Disk Array Controller (RDAC), the sd/ssd driver and the
devfsadmd daemon. The problem was identified but the proposed fix was
never released because fatal design issues were discovered by the
Solaris I/O group. See bugID 4243870 to obtain a more detailed root
cause.

There is no permanent fix for this issue, but there is a simple
workaround. See below.

IMPLEMENTATION:

         ---
        | | MANDATORY (Fully Proactive)
         ---

         ---
        | | CONTROLLED PROACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
         ---

         ---
        | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
         ---

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Sun Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.

If physical device paths appear in the output of 'format', run the
RAID Manager 6 'hot_add' command as shown below.

   # /usr/lib/osa/bin/hot_add

'hot_add' will clear the physical device paths and 'format' will only
show the pseduo device paths.

Implementation Footnote:

i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
     the FIN.

ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.

iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
     need arises.
