PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

Fully configured Sun Fire 6800 servers with 5.13.0 or 5.13.1 firmware
could experience power grid errors when one of the power supplies is
removed or has failed. This power issue may prevent one of the System
Boards from powering up if the system is shut down for any reason. This
may result in loss of availability for a domain.

This issue affects any Sun Fire 6800 system with 6 System Boards, 5.13.0 or
5.13.1 firmware, and with one failed power supply. This issue and other Sun
Fire firmware issues are documented on the Sun Fire Firmware Compatibility
Matrix page at:

  http://cpre-amer.west/esg/msg/techinfo/platform/sun_fire/firmware-matrix/.

The firmware version for a Sun Fire system can be determined using the
'showsc' command from the System Controller platform shell prompt.

     sc0:SC> showsc

     SC: SSC0
     Main System Controller
     SC Failover: enabled and active.
     Clock failover enabled.

SC date: Tue Jul 30 07:28:29 PDT 2002
SC uptime: 17 days 13 hours 51 minutes 59 seconds

ScApp version: 5.13.1 <----------indicates ScApp version
     RTOS version: 23

As a visual check, look to see if the system is a Sun Fire 6800 which
has 6 System Boards installed. Then, check to see if any of its 6
power supplies has faulted, as indicated by an amber failure LED. The
system may be affected if both of these conditions are present.

For this issue, the following message may be seen when a power supply has
failed:

     Jun 19 13:32:31 qads10-sc0 Platform.SC: [ID 677324 local0.warning] The
recommended loading for the power grid containing PS3, PS4, PS5,
        PS3 is being exceeded
     Jun 19 13:32:32 qads10-sc0 Platform.SC: [ID 733886 local0.warning] It is
recommended that one or more of the following boards be powered off:
     Jun 19 13:32:32 qads10-sc0 Platform.SC: [ID 644590 local0.warning] RP2,
        RP3, /N0/SB1, /N0/SB3, /N0/IB7, /N0/IB9, /N0/SB5
     Jun 19 13:32:32 qads10-sc0 Platform.SC: [ID 937307 local0.error] Hpu (A152
Power Supply at PS3) not found to update a device

The sample error message shown below could be encountered if the system was
shutdown and one of the CPU boards could then not be powered back on:

qads10-sc0:SC> poweron sb5/N0/SB5: cannot be powered on without
adequate power; /N0/SB5 has an expected load of 660 which raises
the total grid load to 3,080 but the supported load is only 3,000.

This issue occurs when an error in the definition of the power supply
capacities causes the SC to erroneously calculate that insufficient
power is available to supply all boards in a power grid when one power
supply is lost. In fact, adequate power is available for all System
Boards.

This issue is resolved with SC firmware version 5.13.2 via Patch 112494.
