PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
A power management issue may cause loss of access to internal fiber
channel disks attached to a QLogic ISP2200 controller when Sun StorEdge
Traffic Manager and SAN software is installed. The system may fail to
boot if the boot disk is affected.
This issue affects configurations where all of the following are true:
. Sun Blade 1000/2000, Sun Fire V880, V480, or 280R platform
. Onboard QLogic ISP2200 fiber channel controller
. SAN 3.2 or 4.0 software installed
. Sun StorEdge Traffic Manager (MPxIO) software installed
. MPxIO is enabled
. Power management (autopm) set to "enable" or "default" in
/etc/power.conf
Note: Sun StorEdge Traffic Manager is available on Solaris 8 4/01 and later.
To determine if SAN software is installed:
# pkginfo -l | grep SUNWsan
To determine if a QLogic ISP2200 controller is installed:
# prtconf -vp |grep ISP2200
To determine if MPxIO is enabled:
In file /kernel/drv/scsi_vhci.conf, "mpxio-disable" is set to
"no".
When this issue occurs, the following symptoms may be evident:
. SCSI transport error messages for internal fiber channel disks
appear on the console, or may be found in /var/adm/messages.
. The 'format' command may hang.
. The system may fail to boot if the boot disk is attached to the
Qlogic ISP2200 controller.
This issue occurs when power management code in the kernel fails to
wake the QLogic ISP2200 controller at the proper time. This results in
loss of access to any disk drives attached to this controller.
A patch is pending for this problem. In the meantime, please utilize
the workaround provided below.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Sun Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.
Edit the /etc/power.conf file and set the "autopm" variable to
"disable".

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
the FIN.
ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.
iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
