BugId: 4770492 - error messages "got SCSI bus reset" during boot with
                  Sun StorEdge L7 connected.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

SCSI Bus error messages may appear at boot time when Sun StorEdge L7
Tape Autoloader units are attached to Dual Differential Ultra/Wide SCSI
(PCI) Host Bus Adapters (Option X6541A). These messages can be ignored
and the tape Unit will function normally once the host has booted up.

This issue affects any Sun StorEdge L7 Tape Autoloader attached to an
X6541A HBA on a platform running Solaris 8 or Solaris 9. Other
versions of Solaris are not affected.

When this issue occurs, messages like "Connected command timeout for
Target" and "SCSI Bus Reset" may appear on the console at boot time
only. This is an indication that the Solaris glm driver could not
negotiate with the L7 Tape unit in Synchronous SCSI mode. After the
SCSI bus reset event occurs, the glm driver correctly negotiates in
Asynchronous SCSI mode.

Similar warning messages may be recorded in the /var/adm/messages file:

  Nov 7 16:13:50 <hostname> \
       scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci@8,700000/scsi@2,1 (glm3):

  Nov 7 16:13:50 <hostname> \
genunix: [ID 611667 kern.info] NOTICE: glm3: got SCSI bus reset

The warning message sequence above may occur as the glm driver
(HBA/host side) first attempts Synchronous SCSI negotiation with the L7
robotics controller (target side), however, the L7 robotics controller
is an Asynchronous SCSI device.

There are NO implications once the system has completed booting and is
fully operational. The HBA (host) and L7 controller (target) behave
correctly in Asynchronous SCSI mode. Additionally, the DLT 8000 unit
will negotiate correctly in Synchronous fast/wide SCSI mode with
maximum burst rate of 20 MB/sec per DLT 8000 tape drive specification.
The host system will not indicate any further warning messages.

Work is underway on a glm driver fix for Solaris 8 and 9. Other
releases of Solaris are not affected. Patches will be posted to
SunSolve when available. In the meantime, the error messages may be
safely ignored.

IMPLEMENTATION:

         ---
        | | MANDATORY (Fully Proactive)
         ---

         ---
        | | CONTROLLED PROACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
         ---

         ---
        | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
         ---

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Sun Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.

At this time, the boot time SCSI Bus error messages may be ignored. No
action is required. When the glm driver patches are available on
SunSolve, a follow-up FIN will be issued with implementation
instructions.

Implementation Footnote:

i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Sun Services will attempt to contact
all affected customers to recommend implementation of the FIN.

ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Sun Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.

iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Sun Services will implement the FIN as the
     need arises.
