Moving dimms from SS10 and SS20 to Ultra[TM] 1 and 2 |
|
13 Jun 2002 |
What dimms can be pulled from an SS10 and SS20 and moved to an Ultra[TM] box?
SS10 DIMMs cannot be used in Ultras.
The following DIMMs can be moved in like pairs
to an Ultra 1 and in sets of like fours into Ultra 2:
16MB 501-2479 SS10 and SS20
32MB 501-2622 SS20
64MB 501-2480 SS10 and SS20
The above DIMM parts/part numbers are the same as
for the DIMMs installed in-factory in new Ultra 1
and Ultra 2 builds.
In the Ultra 1, one pair of DIMMs form a Bank.
In the Ultra 2, two pairs of DIMMs form a Group.
All DIMMs in an Ultra 1 Bank or an Ultra2 Group
must be the same size. If you have a range of DIMM
sizes (each Ultra 1 Bank and Ultra 2 Group you
fill - fill it completely before moving on to the
next Bank or Group), fill the Ultra 1 Bank 0 and
the Ultra 2 Group 0 with the larger capacity
pairs and quads, respectively.
For Ultra 1 -> minimum system mem is 32MB, which
would be in the form of two 16MB DIMMs. That minimum
memory would fill Bank 0. Then you can fill the
other Banks in any order.
For the Ultra 2 -> Minimum system mem is 64MB,
which would be in the form of four each 16MB DIMMs
filling all of Group 0. Then you can fill Groups
in any order after that.
