The features , limitations and tips for the Sun[TM] PGX64 graphics card |
|
14 Jun 2002 |
Features
The m64 PGX graphics card is PCI based and is found on the Ultra[TM] 5's and
Ultra 10's motherboard. The PGX is a low end card which provides 8-bit
graphics support and is only meant to handle 2D graphics acceleration.
The current PGX card has 2 megs of memory and to see the supported resolutions
view the man page for m64config.
Limitations
A few of the limitations for the PGX card are it does not support SunPEX[TM]
(The Phigs Extension) or OpenGLŪ . The PGX card was designed for your basic
X environment. It was not meant to handle 3D graphics applications well.
There is no DGA ( Direct Graphics Access ) or DPA support at this time.
Troubleshooting Tips
If your third-party application is having graphics problems with the PGX card
then the first thing you should do is apply the PGX graphics patch.
Solaris[TM] 2.6 105362 PGX m64 driver window config
Solaris[TM] 2.5.1 Maintenance Update 103792 PGX m64 driver window config
If applying the patch does not resolve the problem then make sure you have the
latest rev of the board.
If the above are ok and the graphics problems still exist make sure that
your not trying to get the PGX card to perform functionality it's not
capable of, see limitations above.
At this point it's time to call SunService and see if Sun tested your third-
party application against the PGX card. If they did not, then Sun can file
a bug for you on the issue. The best thing to do is to call the third-party
software vendor and have them open a service order directly with Sun. This
way Sun will have access to the third-party application to test it out and
determine a fix. Also the vendor may sell other graphics software that they
might want to get certified on the Ultra 5's and 10's.
