Sun Fire (3800-6800) - Centerplane/ID board configuration answers |
|
14 Aug 2001 |
In the unlikely event you ever have to replace a Centerplane on a Sun Fire 3800, you may be
prompted to answer a series of questions since the Centerplane FRU, which incorporates
the ID board, is shipped with an unprogrammed SEPROM.
SCApp should automatically program the static portion (such as MAC address, S/N etc.)
of the ID Board, but if it can't, you'll be prompted to answer the following questions.
Please enter System Serial Number from label:
Please enter Platform Model Number (3800, 4800, 4810, 6800):
Please enter System MAC Address from label (aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff) :
Please enter Host ID from label (aabbccdd) :
Is this COD (Capacity on Demand) system ? (Y/N)
Here's how to answer these questions?:
1. System serial number: You can find this on a label on the machine or the rack.
A serial number is always 8 alphanumeric's long, and the 4th digit is always an
alpha character.
Example: 104H2E96
2. Platform model number: Choose the correct platform type from the available
list. (3800, 4800, 4810, 6800)
3. System MAC address from label. This is a tricky one as it is not asking for
the SSC0 MAC address but the MAC address for domain_A. Here's how to derive it:
3800/48x0 systems: 6800 systems:
domain_A = base_mac_addr domain_A = base_mac_addr
domain_B = base_mac_addr+1 domain_B = base_mac_addr+1
SSC0 = base_mac_addr+2 domain_C = base_mac_addr+2
SSC1 = base_mac_addr+3 domain_D = base_mac_addr+3
SSC0 = base_mac_addr+4
SSC1 = base_mac_addr+5
Since the mac_address for SSC0 is displayed just after SCPOST, you can derive
the domain_A mac_address using the table above.
Example: SSC0 displayed the following mac_address after a reset, the platform
type = 6800
SSC0 mac_address: 8:0:20:d8:86:57
So domain_A's mac_address = 08:00:20:d8:86:53
4. Host-ID from label. The hostid follows the following convention:
80 <last_3_octets_from_domain_A_mac_addr>
Example: 80d88653 (derived from the example above)
5. Is this is a COD system. At this point in time, always answer 'N' (no)
