The 9840A and 9840B look very similar but can be easily identified by observing the FC connector.

9840A has the SC connector (same as photon)

9840B has the LC connector (same as t3+)

The 9840A is a SCSI, FC_AL or ESCON device and has advertised throughput of 10MB/second and 20GB capacity (uncompressed). (1GB fibre channel)

The 9840B is a SCSI, FC_AL, fabric, ficon or escon device and has an advertised throughput of 19MB/second and 20GB capacity (uncompressed). (2GB fibre channel)
