Hitachi/SE99XX Storage Array
This document explains how to use the information in a SIM to do the following:
- Locate a specific Hitachi SE99xx Storage Array at a customer site. - How to learn which type of board or device is installed into the Hitachi array at a site, e.g., Channel Adapter.
From this information you can get a part number for a board or device from the FE Handbook.
The following example is a SIM alert generated as a result of a failure of one of the Channel Adapters in a Hitachi SE99xx Storage array.

The FE Handbook has a listing of four types of 4 port Channel Adapters. They are as follows:
4-Port Serial CHA Adapter 4-Port Short Wave Fibre CHA Adapter 4-Port Long Wave Fibre CHA Adapter 4-Port Enhanced Short Wave Fibre CHA Adapte
The process below can be used to determine which type of Channel Adapter is in this particular system.
NOTE: This process can be used for any component for any Hitachi Array for any site.
1) Go to the URL: http://ascc.east
2) On that page, go to: 9900 Tools/Info -> 9900 SIM Alerts - Select that link.
3) Enter the serial number for the array in the field, "enter serial number:", and hit RETURN.
OR Enter the siteid in the field, "enter siteid:", and hit RETURN.
4) The page that is displayed contains the following field:
"Configuration last received <date> `View'".
5) Select the "View" link.
The next page displays a graphic of a Hitachi box.
6) Put the cursor over the middle cabinet and select it.
NOTE: Because Channel Adapters are configured in the DKC, the middle cabinet is selected in this case.
On the page that is now displayed is a graphic of the DKC configuration, slot by slot.
7) Select one of the CHA's(Channel Adapters). Information specific to that Channel Adapter is displayed.
In this case I identified this Channel Adapter as an Enhanced Fibre 4-port CHA ASSY (Shortwave). A part number can be obtained from the FE Handbook from this information. Each slot is identified by an Alphabetic letter. Each side of the DKC is identified as either CL1 or CL2. The SIM noted the location of the suspect Channel Adapter as: Location: CHA-2V
That location then is CL2, in slot "V".
This process can be used to identify specific components for any Hitachi Storage Array for any site.
