CDE dual-head display with TCX card on SS4 does not work |
|
9 Feb 1998 |
On Solaris 2.6 Only!!!!!
When setting up a dual-head display on a sparc 4, if one
of the cards is a tcx card, then the monitor will come up
black. There is a window manager running on both monitor
displays but the screen is black and won't show the desktop
for the tcx display.
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
There is a bug filed on this 4075715.
The workaround for now is as follows:
1. Halt the system so that it is at the open boot prom.
2. <ok> setenv output-device /iommu/sbus/SUNW,tcx@2,800000
3. <ok> reset
Now run the dual-head display command, and both monitors should work
fine. The problem is that the Solaris 2.6 Xserver is not initializing the
tcx framebuffer upon startup of the graphics display.
Note: The device path to the TCX may be different. To see
where it actually is, type
<ok> show-devs
and look for tcx.
Note that a similar problem occurs on the Ultra 10 with 2.5.1 11/97 (this
has not been reported for other versions of Solaris) and a PGX card in a
dual display configuration. The above workaround applies to this problem also
(look for m64 in the show-devs output).
