If a Sun Fire system board has only two (2) processors, can this board be poplulated with the remaining 16 of 32 DIMM/memory slots?
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
No. The Sun Fire system board has 32 DIMM sockets, which are divided into eight (8) banks of four (4) DIMMs per bank. Each CPU has two (2) corresponding DIMM banks. So if a system board has only two (2) processors, the board supports up to 16 DIMMs. See also, "805-7363-11 Sun Fire 6800/4810/4800/3800 System Service Manual" 3.2.3.
