Fixing "held in reset" controllers with RM6 |

There are many times that an A3500 will experience something known as a controller "held in reset".
A "held in reset" controller can be identified by all of its LED's being solidly lit with the exception of a blinking heartbeat LED.
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
To attempt to pull a controller out of "held in reset", try the following:

Run /usr/lib/osa/bin/lad to get the cXtXdX numbers of the attached controllers.

Run /usr/lib/osa/bin/rdacutil -F <cXtXdXs0>of the controller not "held in reset"> This will fail the "held in reset" controller.

Run /usr/lib/osa/bin/rdacutil -U <cXtXdXs0> of the controller not "held in reset">This will unfail the "held in reset" controller.

Run /etc/init.d/rdacctrl stop.

Run /etc/init.d/rdacctrl start.

Run /etc/init.d/rdacctrl config. These steps will refresh the rdriver daemons.

Check the LED's on the controller to see if it is in an active state, and if not, continue to step 8.

Reseat the "held in reset" controller.

Check to see if the controller is active, and if not, continue to step 10.
-
Bring the host to the ok prompt.

Pull the active controller to see if the "held in reset" controller goes to active, and if so, then the controller you pulled should be replaced. If the state of the "held in reset" controller has still not changed, continue to step 12.

Reseat the controller that is not "held in reset".

Power down the RDAC module, leaving the disk trays still powered up, and pull the battery for 10 minutes. Power up the RDAC module and reseat the battery. If the "held in reset" controller's state still hasn't changed, then go to step 14.

Replace the "held in reset" controller or get an RSSE with a tip cable to manually change the state.
