40841   RSC 2.2 GUI complains about needing java 1.3.0 or later   14 Nov 2001

Status Issued

Description

After a new install of Solaris 8 10/01, the RSC package version 2.2 that comes on the accompanying "Software Supplement" CD is installed. When attempting to run the RSC GUI, the following error appears:

The version of Java installed on this machine is 1.2.2.
This is an unsupported version of Java.
Please exit and install version 1.3.0 or later.

The "entire distribution" installation option was selected. Why is this version of Java missing?

SOLUTION SUMMARY:

When the system was installed, the second CD (2 of 2) was not used, or the Java package from that CD was not selected during the initial system installation sequence. This will also happen if you are doing a jumpstart install and have setup the system to install all of the packages, but never added the 2 of 2 CD to the image on the server (by using the add_to_install_server command).

To avoid this problem, be sure to use the 2 of 2 cdrom when doing the install. This will ensure that the needed package (SUNWj3rt) is installed.

If the install has already been completed and you are getting this message, do a pkgadd of SUNWj3rt ("JDK 1.3 run time environment") off of the 2 of 2 cdrom. This package will provide the system with the needed version of Java for the RSC 2.2 GUI to run.
