47695 | Firmware update fails on Sun StorEdge[TM] L20/L40/L60 | 2 Oct 2002 |
Status | Issued |
Description |
Firmware on the L20/L40/L60 can be done either via the web-based interface, or by ftp, as documented in the service manual. However, when going through the normal firmware update procedures, users will see the upload fail with "Download Aborted" messages after clearing flash memory (through web-based interface), or with input file errors and "broken pipe" messages when using FTP utility. Recycling the library has no effect, nor does using different firmware input binaries.
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
This behavior can oftentimes be caused by any component in the library being in a non-optimal state... drive offline, etc. If the drives or affected components cannot be onlined manually, shut down the library and remove affected components, until library comes back up in optimal state. At this time, the library firmware can be updated to latest levels, and components can be put back to their normal locations.
