48180 | Sun Fire[TM] 12K/15K: Meaning of Illuminated Lights on Top Cap | 30 Oct 2002 |
Status | Issued |
Description |
- Problem Statement: What is the meaning when either the service or the removal indicators are illuminated on a SF15K/SF12K's top cap? - Symptoms: The top cap on a SF12K/SF15K will illuminate the service or the removal LED, which can be visually unpleasant to customers.
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
- Troubleshooting: If the service LED is on, verify that both SC0 and SC1 are powered on and in use. If the removal LED is on, verify all of the DB25 connectors on the top cap. (Good connection, no bent pins, etc.) - Resolution: Service LED: If both SC's are working then the issue is likely to be related to the signal getting to the top cap from either of the SC's. Verify the connectivity of the DB25 cables on the back of the top cap. Those cables connect to the SC's via PINS on the Centerplane. These pins connect to the SC at locations 118, 119, 120, and 121 which are the 12V leads to the top cap. ** Note - You cannot determine which SC has the possible problem. Removal LED: The only way the removal LED on the SF12K/SF15K top cap can be illuminated is if there is a service issue with the top cap itself. Verify connections on the back. If they are connected correctly, then swap the top cap. - Summary of part number and patch ID's 540-3883 [F] Top Cap / Frame Manager 501-5121 [F] System Control Board - References and bug IDs4738442 - Request to include Frame Manager (TopCap) LED description in the Service Manual - Additional background information: We have seen some customers with bent pins located on the SC at location 118 which caused the service LED to illuminate.
