Description
SE9900 Installation of Additional Parity Group[s] Fails due to Insufficient License CapacityDescription:

Hitachi Data Systems [HDS] has stopped licensing Priority Port Control [PPC] under the General Resource Manager License Key. PPC Software is now licensed separately. When a customer purchases additional parity groups, the total storage capacity is increased and license keys need to be extended to cover this new capacity to ensure all Licensed Software Suites continue to operate.

The Software Licenses should be installed on the Service Processor [SVP] of the 9900 prior to the addition of new parity groups into the Subsystem Configuration. If the Software Licenses are not installed before new parity groups are added, the SSE will see the following error as they are committing the changes in the Subsystem Configuration:

ERROR: The maximum permissible capacity of program product became insufficient because of the installation of PDEV

Note: When requests are filled out to obtain new Software License keys, it is important to take in account all software in use as it pertains to the storage capacity.

SOLUTION SUMMARY:

Solution

HDS IRC, can be engaged to update the Channel One Licensing with the correct Subsystem Software utilization as it pertains to the total storage capacity of the SE9900. The IRC will then update the License Request for that account and send along a temporary Software License Key to be installed. Sales will then have to order the permanent license key.

License Key Example: [10 day temporary key]
