49483 | Sun Fire[TM] 12K/15K: CLI issued hpost causes split-expander Rstop | 13 Dec 2002 |
Status | Issued |
Description |
- Problem Statement:
In a split domain configuration, Rstop may occur on one domain due to command line invocations of hpost in another domain.
- Symptoms:
While manually running hpost on one domain, the other domain will generate an Rstop, which shows no information as to which component failed. In the initial hpost run, the error masks allow errors triggered by IBIST to be reported to other slot in the split expander. This causes an Rstop.
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
- Troubleshooting:
(1) Are you running a split expander (System Board SB in one domain and IO Board in other domain)?
The find-split-ex script from http://product-support.west.sun.com/starcat/tools can assist in determining split expander configurations.
(2) Are you manually running hpost on one of the domains in the split expander?
For example, a user is manually testing boards from the CLI with:
hpost -d R -Pno_ioadapt_ok -Pno_obp_handoff -l127
(3) Did you get an Rstop in the other domain at about the same time as the hpost?
For example:
hpost in domain R : post021127.0023.14.log Rstop in domain A : dsmd.rstop.021127.0023.22
(4) Run redx to check that Rstop gives an error such as:
redx> dumpf load dsmd.rstop.021127.0023.22 redxl> wfail No components would be failed based on this state.
- Resolution:
Bug
(1) One workaround for this bug is to place this in the platform .postrc:
no_asic_ibist axq sdc
(2) A better workaround is to power-cycle the board before each command-line invocation of hpost.
Note: This RStop is seen at lower levels of hpost but never on the first run after power-on.
Example : SB12 and IO12 are in domain A and domain R, respectively. Before running hpost on domain R:
% poweron SB12 % hpost -d R -Pno_ioadapt_ok -Pno_obp_handoff -l127 % poweroff SB12
