GENERIC NOTES FOR ALL SOLARIS RELEASES, RM6 RELEASES, AND ARRAYS:

(a) StorEdge Array A3000 was formerly called "RSM2000". Only A3000 arrays Support RM6.0. It is strongly advised that systems running RM 6.0/6.1, upgrade to RM6.1.1U2. A3x00 indicates both StorEdge Arrays A3000 and A3500. A3500 includes 1x2 (lite), 1x5, 2x7, and 3x15 configurations.

(b) Solaris Release indicates the Solaris CD used to install the system. This information can be obtained from the '/etc/release' file. If this file does not exist, then the release is the FCS version. FCS indicates the 'First Customer Ship' or original release of the Solaris version which is now called RR (Revenue Release). A Solaris Release can only be changed by a Solaris Install or Upgrade. No amount of patching will change a Solaris Release. The minimum Solaris Release (including above listed patches) for A1000/A3x00 is Solaris 2.5.1 FCS.

(c) These are available at http://sunsolve.sun.com. The latest version of a patch is recommended, unless otherwise specified. All the patches listed for a specific Solaris Release are required, unless otherwise specified. The patch levels shown are known to be tested with RM 6.

(d) A1000/A3x00 require the use of Sun StorEdge Raid Management (RM6) software. The version of RM6 installed can be obtained by running the command "pkginfo -l SUNWosar | grep VERSION".

RM6.0 software returns "1.0,REV=06.00", was shipped as an unbundled CD and on the updates CD for Solaris 2.5.1 4/97 & 8/97, and supports A3000 arrays.

RM6.1 software returns "6.01,REV=00.19", was shipped as an unbundled CD and on the updates CD for Solaris 2.5.1 11/97, and supports A3000 arrays.

RM6.1.1 software returns "6.1,REV=01.04", was shipped as an unbundled CD, and supports A1000/A3000 arrays.

RM6.1.1U1 software returns "6.01,REV=01.11", was shipped as an unbundled CD, and supports A1000/A3x00 arrays.

RM6.1.1U2 software returns "6.01,REV=01.11", was shipped as an unbundled CD, and supports A1000/A3x00 arrays.

To distinguish Update2 from Update1, use "pkgparam SUNWosafw PATCHLIST" which will show 106513-03 for Update2.

Only RM6.1.1U1 or higher is supported on Solaris 7. Only RM6.22 is supported on Solaris 8.

RM6.22 is supported on Solaris 2.5.1 11/97 or higher.

A3500FC is supported on Solaris 2.6 5/98 or higher.

(e) The patches are available at http://sunsolve.sun.com. The latest version of a patch is recommended, unless otherwise specified. Some of the patches listed are required and some are optional. See patch description for more information. It is recommended that all patches listed for the RM6 version be installed if applicable.

(f) This is the current supported level of firmware for the listed RM6 release. It is recommended that the controllers be upgraded to the highest firmware level supported by your installed version of RM6. Both controllers within a dual-controller system must be upgraded to the same version. It is also advised to keep the firmware on all A1000/A3x00 at the same level.

(glm) These patches apply only to systems with PCI/SCSI hba X6541A.

(i) Patch 105181-13 or higher is needed to avoid panic with driver.conf larger than 8KB, see BugID 4176940.

(k) Patch 107665-01 or higher is needed to avoid disks(1m) issues with A3000 devices, see BugID 4096048.

(l) Patch 107472-01 or higher is needed to avoid ses driver issues including conflicts with A1000 and A5x00 arrays, see BugID 4154979.

(m) Patch 107995-01 or higher is needed for RM6.1 needs tx chip firmware to handle FRUs, see BugID 4246753.

(n) Patch 106513-04 is both a firmware patch for the A1000/A3x00 as well as other fixes for RM 6.1.1 and RM6.1.1U1/2. Patch 106707-03 and above no longer contain firmware and should be used with RM6.1.1 and RM6.1.1U1/2 in cluster configurations. Patch 106513-04 and later should be used in all RM 6.1.1 configurations. It is still required to keep the firmware level on both controllers within a dual-controller system at the same level. It is also advised to keep the firmware on all A1000/A3x00 at the same level.

(o) Patch 106707 is used on systems with RM6.1.1 and Sun Cluster 2.x installed. If you are not going to install Sun Cluster on the system with RM6 installed, then this patch is not needed.

(p) Patch 106552 has only been tested in combination with 106513-03. Have patch 106513-03 or later installed prior to installing 106552.

(q) Patch 113184-01 must be removed prior to installing 112233-02.

(format) These format patches need to have the applicable version applied to all hosts.

(ifp) These patches apply only to systems with PCI/FC hba X6729A (FC/100P).

(iostat) Patch 109277-03 is required for proper execution of iostat on Solaris 8 systems. See bug ID 4679590.

(isp) These patches apply to systems with the sbus SCSI hba.

(kjp) These Kernel Jumbo Patches need to have the applicable version applied to all hosts.

(lv) For Qlogic 220x only.

(nvsram) Patches 109232 (D1000 tray) and 109233 (RSM tray) are NVSRAM files. NVSRAM files are only for RM6.22 SCSI A3x00's being upgraded to Fibre. They do not apply for A1000's, Factory shipped A3500FC's or RM6.22.1.

(patch) 106125-15 is for patchadd/patchrm and should be applied to all hosts running Solaris 2.6.

(SAN) Patch required for SAN configurations only.

(sd) These patches are for the scsi target driver and need to have the applicable version applied to all hosts.

(ses) These SES patches need to have the applicable version applied to any host with an A1000, A3500 or A3500FC attached. They are of no added value for A3000's.

(sflux) For Fibre only.

(ssd) These patches apply to all systems with fibre channel connections.

These should agree with the PatchPro list found on SunSolve:
