Ultra[tm] 2 Workstation: Field Change Orders

The following list does not include related external storage FINs, unless they are specific to the system.

Implementation (Impl.):
M
= Mandatory (Fully Pro-Active)

C
= Controlled Pro-Active (per Sun Geo Plan)

U
= Upon Failure

Components Affected Description
A0182-1
C
18GB and 36GB IBM disk drives 18GB and 36GB IBM disk drives experiencing high failure rate in high humidity and high temperature environments.
A0151-1
U
FDDI 5.0 SAS/DAS (370-3142, 370-3143, 370-2339, 370-2340); SPARCcenter 2000 SPARCcenter 2000 will fail Power-On Self-Test (POST) in extended mode with FDDI 5.0 SBus controllers installed with an unexpected data_access_exception error which could cause the system to Watchdog Reset.
A0121-2
C
Exabyte 8mm 8705DX/8900 tape drives Improved reliability through firmware upgrade on Exabyte 8mm 8705DX/8900 tape drives. Multiple problems have been reported regarding the 8705DX/8900 tape drives: 1) Excessive read retry soft error reporting, 2) 8705DX cannot read low density tapes with multiple dd dumps, and 3) 8200 mode incompatibility.
A0115-1
U
Power Supply, 350Watt (300-1315-01) 350 Watt power supply experiencing slightly higher than desired failure rate. Some of the failure symptoms include: 1) Fan may contact internal parts causing fan noise, 2) Power supply may fail with no outputs, and 3. Floppy drive may have read errors because of a "common mode noise" problem caused by the PCB layout in the power supply.
A0113-3
U
4.2GB 7200 RPM Disk Drive (370-2809) After extended run time in heavy disk access applications and extended power down times, Quantum 4.2GB disk drives may fail to spin up. These drives are at risk of premature failure due to oil contamination which causes a stiction failure in the HDA. Only disk drives in the following FRU serial number range are affected: 0005181-97041Dxxxx to 0005181-97440Dxxxx.
A0109-1
C
SAS FDDI 5.0 (370-2339-01), DAS FDDI 5.0 (370-2340-01) SBus Timeout errors occur during back-to-back writes using FDDI/S 5.0 boards. The errors arise due to a marginal timing problem.
A0107-1
U
200MHz CPU Module (501-3132-11) A tilted second SBus connector on some Ultra 1 and Ultra 2 systems does not allow installation of SBus cards.
A0106-1
U
SBus cards Ultra 2 with hme0 interface SBus cards may experience a panic or a hang condition. Failures typically occur within 24 hours of system initialization. The system will not experience this problem if only the onboard hme0 device is used OR if just one external SBus card is used.
A0102-1
U
System Board (501-2487, 501-3132) Various disk related errors, including SCSI timeouts, drive offline, and trap 31. The failures are due to the coupled mode/activity dip problem on the KSS crystal.
A0097-1
U
200MHz CPU Module (501-3041-05 or below; 501-4791-02 or below) Ultra 2 200MHz UltraSPARC CPU modules fail with SRAM and writeback data parity errors.
A0084-1
n/a
SunSwift SBus Adapter Card (X1018A); SWIS/S SBus Adapter Card (X1063A) On some Ultra 1 and Ultra 2 systems with Fast/Wide single-ended SCSI buses consisting of external devices and 2GB-7200 rpm disk drives, users have reported SCSI write parity errors. The condition is seen most often when there are internal 2GB-7200 rpm disk drives and MultiPack-12 (2GB) enclosures are on the same SCSI bus.
